Consumer's
Guide - part 4 |

Here are the answers you should receive, from a good and reliable
cleaning company.
1/ In general the recommended
carpet cleaning method for a typical residential carpet is Hot Water
Extraction. However some Berber carpets are better to be cleaned using
a Low Moisture Method. No one should be able to recommend the best
cleaning method for your carpets over the phone or without inspection.
The method selection depends on the overall carpet condition and type.
2/ At least you should expect your
cleaning technician to have: High efficiency vacuum to pre-vacuum all
areas prior to cleaning, truck mount (preferable) or portable
extractor, floor machine with all the attachments needed to do low
moisture or restorative cleaning.
3/ Carpet cleaning should be done
every six months or at least once a year. This is the most ignored
fact, let’s look at it this way, most home owners state that they
clean their tile or hardwood floors once a week, at the same time the
carpet got clean once on a few years…
Even if you vacuum your carpet regularly, and the surface of your
carpet appears to be somewhat clean. After a while the dust and dirt
becomes ground into the bottom of the carpet. The embedded soil acts
like sandpaper. Walking on the carpet actually causes grid action that
increases wear and reduce the useful lifespan of your carpet
drastically.
4/ The training is very important
but not always enough, you have to make sure that the person who will
clean your carpets and furniture has a long REAL experience. Ask if
the technician is certified by IICRC in Carpet Cleaning and Upholstery
and Fabric Cleaning.
5/ It’s important to have
commercial liability insurance, this will cover damage to your
property if occurs. Some people on the web will recommend you to ask
for proof or a certificate. Well it is your choice, but I am not
really recommending turning the hiring process into an investigation.
6/ Yes this is very important,
there is a institution which set the standards for the cleaning
industry IICRC - Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration
Certification. A certified technician will have better knowledge and
provide better service.
7/ knowing in advance how your
cleaning would be priced will give you an idea about how much you have
to spend. Most carpet cleaners charge per square feet, some of them
have a minimal charge or service call charge. Lately some companies
start charging per room, mainly to mach the local competition in their
areas.
For the same reason you will find that some business owners have
adapted one of his services to compete with the type” per room”
advertiser.
A reputable serviceman will tell you up front if any additional
services are required and the total cost.
