Consumer's
Guide - part 5 |
|
|
8/ You should expect normal
drying times, from few hours for low moisture cleaning to 6-8
hr. for steam cleaning. Generally the drying time depends on the
carpet type, relative humidity, amount of furniture, air flow,
and of course on the cleaning technician.
9/ you should be provided
with a written guarantee. Different companies have different
options, but at least your guarantee should read something like
this: If you are not completely satisfied we will re-do the work
or re-fund your money.
10/ Make sure you are not
going to be charged extra for spot treatment or preconditioning
or any dual process or deluxe cleaning or whatever some
unethical cleaners will try to offer you. Ask for exact scope of
work and estimate before authorize the job to begin. Most
trustful companies will do this first without you even ask them.
11/ Carpet protector is
recommended, however most companies have additional charges for
that service. It can cost anywhere from $0.10 - 0.15sq/ft or it
could be an additional charge of $20.00 or more to your total. I
know a company in
Toronto,
they have included the cost of the protector in their price and
applied it on every job (if possible). Our company is offering
two types of protectors, one is for free and we apply it on
every job possible. The other one cost some money and it comes
with six months stain free carpet guarantee.
12/ I included this question
in the list, just to let you know that some companies will
arrange an appointment to your convenience regardless of if it’s
for the weekend or during the week or even after five.
13/ Regarding cleaning
solutions, this one is important. There are some brand name
(very good) chemicals which are also very expensive, but they
are efficient and safe for use. There are some no names as well,
with unknown quality and are less expensive. So is good to ask
what chemicals they are going to use and if they are industry
approved.
Pay attention of how the technician mixes the solution that
he/she is going to use in your home. Of course you want your
carpets to be cleaned with freshly mixed solution. Some
Ingredients may become inactive over the short period of time.
When he or she mixes the cleaning solution please pay attention
if they are using measuring cup, to measure the exact amount of
chemicals they are going to use. If they just pour the chemicals
in without keeping the proportions, don’t let them use this
mixture and experiment with your health and carpets.
14/ It is accepted that if
you move the furniture you saving money. You will definitely get
better cleaning job if there are less furniture. Ask in advance
about the pricing with and without moving furniture.
15/ No one should be able to
give you an exact estimate over the phone. However you have to
receive a general idea of what the charges are per sq/ft or per
room and also a free estimate should be offered to you. Please
note that some cleaners may charge you for all room even if they
don’t move the furniture and clean traffic areas only. For
example if you don’t want to move the bed in your bedroom and
they are going to clean just around it ask them not to measure
the all room but only the are they will actually clean.
I hope this article was helpful for you in guiding you how to
avoid some carpet cleaning rip-offs and to select the good and
honest carpet cleaner.
